When can I enroll in the CSEE Program?

Participants are invited, and encouraged, to join the program at any time! The program has been developed to allow for members to join at any time and work to complete the requirements at their own pace. All you need to do is fill out a registration form and you will be notified of all upcoming courses when details are available. You may participate in as many courses as you wish, at your own pace. All new participants must complete all three core courses, which will be offered online.

What are the requirements for certification?

For Standard participants, the requirements for certification are as follows: 1) earn 32 credits, 2) have at least five years of experience in the sport tourism industry at the time of graduation, 3) be employed by a member organization in good standing throughout the entire process of certification and 4) pay the fees required for each course.

For Grandfather participants the requirements for certification are as follows: 1) earn twenty credits, 2) have ten or more years' experience in a leadership position in the sport tourism industry at the time of enrollment in the CSEE program, 3) be employed by a member organization in good standing throughout the entire process of certification and 4) pay the fees required for each course.

What is "grandfather" status and how do I qualify?

The CSEE Program offers “grandfather” status for those with ten (10) or more cumulative years in the sport tourism industry in a leadership position that includes bidding on and hosting sports events. This does not include major or minor league sports, collegiate athletics, media or other positions that are in the sports business but not in the sport tourism industry.

For Grandfather Status, how and when do I prove my "10 Years of Experience" requirement?

In order to demonstrate 10 years of experience, a professional resume including employment history and sport tourism industry specific experience, is required. Years of experience must be verified upon admission to the program.

How are credits earned?

Credits can be obtained in two ways:

1) Attend a live course:

  • In conjunction with 4S, Chief Executive Summit or Women's Summit (2 credits)
  • In conjunction with the NASC Symposium (4 credits)

2) Complete an online course (4 credits)

How often are courses offered?

Live courses are offered twice a year. The spring course is held in either April or May and runs in conjunction with the Symposium and the fall course in conjunction with 4S Summit.

Online courses are offered four times a year, typically about once per quarter. Three online courses are currently offered: Effective Communication, Effective Selling, and Strategic Planning. Participants who enrolled after January 1, 2016 must complete all three online courses. Learn more.

Can I audit or observe the courses?

No. Only NASC members in good standing who have registered for the certification process and paid the registration fees may attend.

If I register for one course, am I committing to complete the entire program?

No. You may enter, leave and re-enter the program at any time. However, you are required to meet all of the requirements before you become certified.

How long will it take me to complete certification?

You can earn up to six (6) credits per year if you attend both the Spring and Fall courses. Those members that are eligible for "Grandfather" status have to earn less credits and therefore become certified more quickly. Participants will also earn four credits for each completed online course.

Once I earn my credential, how do I maintain my certification?

To maintain your certification, graduates are required to earn a minimum of four credits per year and remain on staff with a member of the NASC. Continuing education credits can be earned by attending one of the two live courses offered each year. You may also earn credits by attending 4S Summit, Chief Executive Summit, or Women's Summit.
