"Homegrown" and "Created" Events - You Can't Lose an Event Bid for an Event Without a Bid!
Summary:
Sports Commissions and CVBs regularly bid for important events, and event rights holders define the process by which decisions are made. The most prestigious events draw numerous bidders, and considerable resources can be expended by cities wishing to expand their event portfolio. However, some cities have discovered the cure for expensive sports event bids: creating events that are owned by the sports commission, CVB, or other affiliated entity -- for which there are NO bids!
For Cleveland, Kansas City, and St. Louis, “homegrown” or “created” events represent an important niche that has provided opportunities to showcase distinctive and unique initiatives with far fewer restrictions than events owned by national sports organizations. Audience members can expect to derive benefit from understanding how to encourage the creative process, while eliminating some of the burdens of bureaucracy. The end result is events that are unique and distinctive, and that have the opportunity to grow and develop into important national events.
