I know I am a little early talking about a New Year’ Resolution---let me get through the Holidays enjoying the plethora of Sweets and endless Parties with all that delicious food. After all of that I will then come up with and announce my 2018 Resolution to shave some pounds knowing that it will be September before I will hit my goal.
My resolution that I want to announce today is that I will make it a Priority to dig deeper in my personal relationships with our facility partners.
We (Sean Robison on our staff and I), as I am sure that your destinations do as well, have turnover from time to time in our Parks and Recreation Departments. To be honest, they are not always public about the change or the new hire. In some cases, we found out through another source of the change. CINCINNATI (December 8, 2017) – The National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC), the only non-profit trade association for the sports events & tourism industry in the United States, has launched a new website, www.sportscommissions.org, to serve as an expanded resource for its membership.
“The NASC serves as the leading association for sports commissions, sports destinations, sports event owners and industry partners, and the new website will provide a comprehensive information for members, industry partners and media,” said Al Kidd, President & CEO of NASC. “The new site is a more contemporary and easier to navigate source of information and support tools. First and foremost, we want information. Rights holders operate in multiple states, counties, municipalities and other entities which all may have different rules when it comes to facility permits, health and safety rules, etc. Knowing that information is incredible helpful to rights holders and can save them hours of research time and phone calls trying to sort it all out.
Local information is also helpful, especially for youth events. People need things to do between games, or need to buy things they forgot etc. Providing a simple one-sheeter with information such as the nearest hospital, urgent care center, sporting goods store, mall, movie theater etc. will be useful when training staff and can be included in their staffs books they use throughout the weekend. Think about the things you would want to know about if you were traveling for your son’s or daughter’s tournament.

The NASC Hall of Fame Committee was established to honor those who played a vital role in the success and promotion of the National Association of Sports Commissions. The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to promote the professional management of sporting events and the sport tourism industry as a whole by honoring those individuals who exemplified the values of the NASC in their careers and by acknowledging their legacies to provide guidance for future members of the NASC.
To be considered, nominations must be received no later than January 31, 2018.

The National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC), in conjunction with Ohio University, released its annual State of the Industry Report for the sport event industry, and the survey shows the industry continues to be strong throughout the country.
Estimated visitor spending associated with sports events in 2016 was $10.47 billion, a 10% increase from 2015, when the total was $9.45 billion. Between 2012 and 2016, according to the study, visitor spending in the United States has increased at a strong 26.1%.
“The survey results show that sport event continues to be a major economic driver,” said Alan Kidd, president and CEO of NASC. “Our members lead the way in holding well-run events that keep rights holders as well as participants coming back year after year.”
Other findings from the report show that 97% of the organizations have seen either consistent sponsorship revenue streams or an increase in sponsorship revenues for their events. Individual organization...
