Kris Smith joined the Detroit Sports Commission as Sales Manager, Event Development in September 2012.

In his role, Smith recruits amateur and Olympic sporting events, attend industry tradeshows and events, and assist in bid development.

He comes to the DSC from the Hampton Convention and Visitors Bureau/Sports Hampton where he held the position of Group Sales Manager for meetings and competitions since 2002.

While in Hampton, Kris created the Sports Hampton brand, served as a representative to the Hampton Roads Sports Commission and was a founder of Sports Virginia. He also led the charge in several facility development projects.

Kris attended both Hampton and Old Dominion Universities where he participated in varsity sports programs.
