2018 Symposium

Sport Tourism Organization of the Year

This award is given to an Active member who has had the most exceptional impact on their local community through sports events and visitor spending. This organization should also show a commitment to NASC and its mission. CVBs, DMOs, parks and recreation departments, chambers of commerce and other host organizations may apply for this award.

Submission Guidelines

The NASC Awards Committee invites you to submit nominations for the 2017 NASC Member Awards on behalf of your organization.

Award recipients will be selected on the basis of exemplary performance and merit, and not all awards may be awarded in a given year. Winners will be announced the Opening Ceremonies and Member Awards Breakfast at the 25th annual NASC Sports Event Symposium in Sacramento, CA on March 28, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. PT. Nominations and all supplemental materials are due by Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 11:59pm ET.

In order for your entry to be considered, please address each of the judging criteria and clearly label each section of your entry according to the judging criteria outlined below.

Please include the following in your 800-word description:


  • Statement detailing sports commission mission, objectives and goals for the current year. (10 pts)
    • Organization may submit annual business plan as a supporting document to meet this criteria.
  • Quality of the sporting events supported by your organization in your community based on: community interest, size of events in relation to community size, and the positive impact the event had on the community. (35 pts)
  • Specific examples of how your organization supported efforts of sports events and how city/local community received benefit. (i.e. volunteer recruitment, sponsorship referrals, marketing, etc.)  Describe how sports events were produced (i.e. local organizing committee, local club or league, etc.), and describe how the group was formed and staffed. (15 pts)
  • Evidence that your activities benefited community/city financially via economic impact/direct spending, hotel room nights generated or otherwise.  (15 pts)

  • Contributions to NASC. (10 pts)
    • Examples include board service, committee participation, outreach, years of membership, etc. 
  • Statements of support from community leaders, strategic partners and/or organizations affected by your activities. (15 pts)
    • These can also be submitted as supporting documents.
