2018 Symposium

Sports Commission of the Year

This award is given to an Active member who has had the most exceptional impact on their local community through sports events and visitor spending. This organization should also show a commitment to NASC and its mission. Sports commissions, sports councils, and sports authorities may apply for this award.

Submission Guidelines

The NASC Awards Committee invites you to submit nominations for the 2017 NASC Member Awards on behalf of your organization.

Award recipients will be selected on the basis of exemplary performance and merit, and not all awards may be awarded in a given year. Winners will be announced the Opening Ceremonies and Member Awards Breakfast at the 25th annual NASC Sports Event Symposium in Sacramento, CA on March 28, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. PT. Nominations and all supplemental materials are due by Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 11:59pm ET.

In order for your entry to be considered, please address each of the judging criteria and clearly label each section of your entry according to the judging criteria outlined below. 

Please include the following in your 800-word description:

  • Statement detailing sports commission mission, objectives and goals for current year. (10 pts)
    • Organization may submit annual business plan as a supporting document to meet the criteria.
  • Measurable examples of how outlined goals were achieved through execution of sports commission activities. > (35 pts)
    • Examples of the impact that the sports commission activities have had on a direct impact on the local community (i.e. economic impact, hotel occupancy, etc.)  level of community engagement (i.e. community interest/support, corporate involvement, etc.) and/or  benefits to local civic organizations.
  • Evidence that your activities benefited community/city by promoting your destination regionally, nationally or internationally. (15 pts)
  • Specific examples that set the standard for the quality of the event (s) that were produced or hosted by a sports commission. (15 pts)
    • This can include branding, attendance, financial success, positive references and the sustainability of the event, if this is an annual event.
  • Contributions to NASC. (10 pts)
    • Examples include board service, committee participation, outreach, years of membership, etc. 
  • Statements of support from community leaders, strategic partners and/or organizations affected by your activities. (15 pts)
    • These can also be submitted as supporting documents.
