CSEE
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. Why did the NASC launch this program? A. Since its inception, the NASC has been dedicated to raising the standards of professionalism in the industry. Discussion concerning establishment of our own branded certification program began as early as 1995. Our first steps toward our own program began in 1999 when we instituted a series of professional development seminars in conjunction with the annual and semi-annual meetings. These continued through 2000 and 2001, for a total of six seminars over three years. The Destination Management Association International (DMAI) is one example of an association that has offered a certification program for many years. The NASC Professional Development Committee has worked closely with staff on the development of the program. The committee will continue to monitor each set of modules as they are presented. This will help ensure continued relevance to your day-to-day operations.
Q. What will I learn? A. You will be provided with cutting edge knowledge from the all topics relevant to the sports event industry. Sessions will cover a variety of topics that will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of your daily operations. Two hot topics are covered at each module.
Q. Why do the modules cost extra? A. Because stipends and travel expenses must be provided to our presenters. A 2001 survey of NASC members produced agreement we wanted most of this training in conjunction with our existing meeting schedule which does call for the presenters to travel to our meetings.
Q. How often are modules held? A. Two modules are held each year: Spring and Fall. The Spring module is held each April in conjunction with the NASC Sports Event Symposium and the second in the Fall currently in conjunction with the TEAMS conference.
Q. Can I audit or observe the modules of training? A. No. Only NASC members in good standing who have registered for the certification process and paid the registration fees may attend.
Q. If I register for one module, am I committing to complete the entire program? A. No. You may enter, leave and re-enter the program at any time. However, you are required to meet all of the requirements before you become certified.
Q. When can I enroll in the CSEE Program? A. Participants are invited, and encouraged, to join the program at any time! The program has been developed to allow for members to join at any time and work to complete the requirements at their own pace. All you need to do is fill out a registration form and you will be notified of all upcoming Modules when details are available. You may participate in as many Modules as you wish, at your own pace.
Q. How long will it take me to complete certification? A. As long as you like. The more modules you attend, if you have earned your Masters Degree in Sports Administration/Management/Marketing and if you attend the education sessions offered at the NASC Sports Event Symposium, the quicker certification can be obtained. Those members who register in the “grandfather” program will become certified more quickly then others.
Q. What are the requirements for certification? A. For Standard participants, the requirements for certification are as follows: 1) acquire eight credits, 2) have a least five years' experience sports event industry at time of graduation, 3) be a member in good standing throughout the entire process of certification and 4) pay the fees required for each module.
For Grandfather participants the requirements for certification are as follows: 1) acquire five credits, 2) have ten or more years' experience in a leadership position in the sports event industry at the time of enrollment in the CSEE program, 3) be a member in good standing throughout the process of certification and 4) pay the fees required for each module.
Q. How are credits earned? A. Credits can be obtained in three ways: 1) By attending a combination of the CSEE Modules (1 Module = 1 Credit) 2) Complete an Online Module through the NASC Learning Center (1 Module = 1 Credit) 3) If you have earned your Masters Degree in Sports Administration/Management/Marketing and can demonstrate event experience (Degree = 1 Credit).
Q. What do I need to do to have one (1) credit applied for my Masters Degree in Sports Administration/Management/Marketing? A. You will need to send a copy of your diploma along with a statement of event experience earned while studying for your Masters Degree to the NASC office. You will be notified when the one (1) credit has been applied.
Q. What “Grandfather” status and how do I qualify? A. The CSEE Program offers “grandfather” status for those with ten (10) or more cumulative years in the sports event industry in a position(s) that includes bidding and hosting sporting events. Those interested in applying for “grandfather” status, in addition to completing the form above, should include a professional resume to include, but not limited to, employment history and industry specific experience.
Q. For Grandfather Status, how and when do I prove my "10 Years of Experience" requirement? A. In order to demonstrate 10 Years of Experience, a professional resume, including but not limited to employment history and industry specific experience, is required. Years of experience must be proved upon admission to the program.
Q. What is the fastest track to my CSEE designation? A. If you are “grandfathered” you have to acquire five (5) credits and this can be completed in just over two years if you attend the two modules offered per year and complete the one Online Module.
Standard participants must acquire a minimum of eight (8) credits and this can be completed within three (3) years from your start date if you participate in six consecutive modules and you also complete two Online Modules during those years. Remember, however, that you must have at least five (5) years of experience in the sports industry before you can be certified.
Finally, if you have earned your Masters Degree in Sports Administration/Management/Marketing you can earn one (1) additional credit towards your certification.
Q. How do I sign up? A. To enroll in the CSEE Program complete an Enrollment Form.
Q. How do I register for each individual module? A. Each enrolled CSEE participant will receive, a few months before the next module, information on that module and instructions on how to register.

Q. How late can I sign up (and pay the fee) to attend the next module? A. Online registration will be available for each module a few months prior. Remember your dues must also be paid to attend any certification training, which can also be done at any time until the sessions begin.
Q. This seems like a substantial commitment on my part. A. Yes, it is! We believe adding CSEE to your professional resume will prove valuable to you and your employer.
Q. Once I complete my certification, what are the continuing education requirements to maintain my certification? A. In order to maintain your active CSEE designation, you are require to earn a minimum of one continuing education credit per year and remain an active member of the NASC. You can earn your continuing education credit by attending one of the two modules offered each year (Spring and Fall) or by completing one Online Module each year.
