USA BMX Wants Gilbert to be its Epicenter

Gilbert could soon become America’s epicenter of BMX bike racing with a $19 million national headquarters, Olympic training track and public park if plans are approved by the Town Council later this month. Sand Volleyball Facility Proposed in Myrtle Beach

Coastal Carolina University is looking forward to joining the nearly 50 other universities that offer NCAA women’s beach volleyball – if Myrtle Beach is able to build their home court. The Myrtle Beach City Council is considering construction of the $263,000 facility that would hold nine sand volleyball courts and 230 parking spaces at Pebble Beach.
Fishing Promotions Pay off for Casper

When the Casper Area Convention and Visitors Bureau thought about selling Casper a few years ago, they started with the city's strengths: a centralized location and its proximity to really big fish. A campaign in 2011 directed at Colorado’s Front Range used TV commercials, magazine ads and fishcasper.com. Nonresident fishing licenses purchased in Natrona County the following calendar year increased 31 percent.

From March 31-April 3, USYCA President Jamie Harrison will attend the National Association of Sports Commisssions (NASC) Sports Event Symposium in Oklahoma City. NASC is the only trade association for the sports tourism industry and serves sports commissions, convention and visitors bureaus (CVBs), and sports event owners. USYCA has been an active member of NASC since 2013.

Foley Plans Sports Destination with Events Center and Conference Center Hotel

Foley is moving forward with plans to build a multi-use, state-of-the-art sports complex, complete with multiple outdoor playing fields and an indoor sports center that will provide the city with the capacity to host large indoor and outdoor sports tournaments. A 150-room hotel with conference capability will also be built adjacent to the complex, creating a one-stop venue where sports teams can spend the night and walk to their tournaments, according to city officials.

The Calhoun County Visitors Bureau (CVB) and Branch Gymnastics announce that USA Gymnastics has selected Battle Creek to host the 2013 Women’s Junior Olympic Level 9 Eastern Championships. Nearly 400 of the best Level 9 gymnasts east of the Mississippi River will compete in the event on May 2-5, 2013. The competition will be held at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek, MI.

A new sport, straight out of children’s literature, is sweeping college campuses across the country and has landed in the Rockford region. Quidditch, created by J.K. Rowling for the Harry Potter children’s series, has traversed from fiction to reality and will hit the fields in Rockford. The Rockford region will host its first-ever Quidditch tournament April 26-27, 2013 on the Rockford Park District soccer fields by Elliot Golf Course.

Copley was selected by the Host Organizing Committee Executive Committee, and will oversee The International Canoe Federation (ICF) Canoe Slalom World Championships which will be held in the Deep Creek Lake area of Garrett County, Maryland in September 2014.
San Antonio Sports Director Susan Blackwood to step down after long and distinguished tenure

After 16 transformative years at the helm of San Antonio Sports, Executive Director Susan Blackwood will leave her post at the end of the year and step into a new role conducting governmental relations for the organization during the 2013 Texas Legislative Session. After the session concludes, she will undertake a massive, one-year fundraising effort for the organization’s endowment, Team SA.

The DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) was on hand for a press conference last Friday that kicked off a month-long celebration of DuPage County's hosting of the 39th Ryder Cup with the opening of The Ryder Cup Exhibit…Where Legends are Forged and Legacies are Made at Oakbrook Center. The exhibit is open to the public through September 30, 2012. Admission is free.
