Member Mentoring

The Mentoring Committee consists of volunteer NASC members with over 100 years of collective experience who are ready to serve all NASC members as an exclusive member-only benefit. The goal of the committee is to educate the general membership on not only the value of the NASC, but to expose members to the vast amount of experience and know-how available from within its own ranks.   Heath Aucoin, CSEE, Director of Operations, Tulsa Sports Commission

Heath Aucoin joined the Tulsa Sports Commission as Director of Operations in January 2013. Prior to working for the Tulsa Sports Commission, Heath was the Sports Sales Manager/Event Manager for the SMG-managed Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson, MS. Prior to working for SMG, Heath was the Director of Events Management for the Baton Rouge Area Sports Foundation for three years and also taught Event Management classes at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA. During his tenure with BRASF, he sat on the organizing committee for the Cajun Classic Wheelchair Tournament, the USTA Southern Section Combo Doubles Tennis Tournament, YMCA 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, and various 5k and 10k Road Races. Heath has an undergraduate degree in Finance and an MBA from LSU. He is a graduate of the CSEE program and a graduate of the IAVM Venue Management School.

John David is the Chief Operating Officer of USA BMX, the National Governing Body for the sport of bicycle motocross (BMX), where he has been since 2000.  In addition to executing the mission of the association, John focuses heavily on the creation of the association’s annual national series which consist of 30 national level events which are hosted across North America including the annual Grand National Championships and BMX Olympic Trials.  Recently John co-coordinated the asset purchase of the National Bicycle League to create singular governing body thus unifying the sport of BMX for the first time since its inception over 40 years ago.

Seann DeMaris is the Sports and Leisure Sales Manager for the Ames Area Sports Commission. He has worked with the Ames Area Sports Commission since 2004, helping them become a certified Regional Sports Authority by the state of Iowa in 2008. Seann is also a graduate of Iowa State University in Ames, IA. He has been a member of NASC since 2004 and received his CSEE certification in April 2010.  During his tenure at the Ames Area Sports Commission, Seann has been involved in strengthening Ames and central Iowa as a destination for a variety of sporting events targeting ages youth through adults, including supporting Big 12 and NCAA events with Iowa State University. He has also helped host prestigious national events, including the first ever Special Olympics USA National Games in 2006 and has successfully recruited new events to the area, including the 2012 National Beep Baseball World Series. Seann also works with an impressive number of sporting events that return to Ames and central Iowa each year, including the Iowa Shrine Bowl, Summer Iowa Games and the Special Olympics Iowa State Summer Games.

Jim served on the Board of Directors of the Columbus Area Visitors Center (CAVC) for seven years and as an officer for three of those years. Jim currently serves as Director of Sports Tourism for the CAVC and oversees over 50 annual athletic events in Columbus. Jim has been involved in the hospitality industry for over 30 years having owned and operated his own restaurants in Indiana and Illinois. A former high school teacher and coach, he has also held management positions in a Fortune 500 company and has served on numerous boards including the Western Illinois University Foundation Board and the Western Illinois University Athletic Board.



Don Dukemineer, CHSP, Convention Sales Manager, Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau

Don Dukemineer has been with the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau for seven plus years as Convention Sales Manager responsible for the sports and education markets. Throughout his short career, don has earned several tourism awards and served in various leadership positions, both within the hospitality industry and community. In 2009, he was awarded the “Green Apple Award” for Young Professional of the Year by the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association. In 2010, the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Executives (HSME) of Huntsville/Madison County recognized him as the CVB’s “employee of the year.” Don was selected in the Southeast Tourism Society’s inaugural class of the “Forty for the Future,” recognizing travel’s leading talent in 2012. Don earned his designation as a Certified Hospitality Sales Professional (CHSP) in 2013 and will soon complete his designation requirements as a Certified Sports Event Executive (CSEE). Don’s work in sports marketing has earned him recognition from SportsEvents Magazine as a “Readers Choice Award” in 2012 and 2013. He also is working on his accreditation in “special event contingency planning” through the State of Alabama’s Emergency Management Association. 

During his time at the CVB, he has served in various leadership positions within the hospitality industry. In 2008, Don was elected Chairman of the Alabama Sports Initiative, Sports Alabama, by the members of the Alabama Association of Destination Marketing Organizations (AADMO). He continues to serve in this position today. Under his leadership, Don has represented both the State of Alabama as well as over 11 destinations in bringing forth awareness of Alabama’s rich history and tradition in hosting sporting events.  As a part of the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Executives (HSME) of Huntsville/Madison County, Don has served the group for the past five years, including positions of President, Vice President and Treasurer. Since, 2010, Don has served as the CVB liaison on the City of Huntsville’s Special Events Committee. He has served on various committees, including the Louis Crews Classic Steering Committee under Alabama A&M University, Still Serving Veterans golf tournament committee and a member of Leadership Huntsville Connect Advisory Council. Within the community, Don serves as the board chairman for the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) program at Huntsville High School. At his high school alma mater, he has served in various capacities within the schools athletics and community boards and has been asked to serve as President of the MCHS Alumni Association. 

Don is a native of Huntsville, Alabama. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and minor in Communication Studies. He is a member of the Maysville Church of Christ. 

 

Ron Eifert, CSEE, Dayton/Montgomery County CVB

Ron has been in the hospitality business since 1989 when he started with Hilton and then joined the staff at the Dayton/Montgomery County CVB in February 1993.  Ron has had the opportunity to work most of the market segments for the Bureau and has focused on sports since the late 90's.

Kindra is the Director of Sales for the Bryan-College Station Convention and Visitors Bureau where she has been since 2004. The sports market in Bryan-College Station is thriving and in her time in Aggieland, Kindra has increased hotel room nights by 300%. Prior to the convention and visitors bureau world, she served as the Marketing Assistant and as an Event Coordinator with the NAIA and has experience in the collegiate athletics field as well. Kindra has been a member of NASC since 2002 and earned her CSEE in April 2008.

John V. Gibbons is the Executive Director of the Rhode Island Sports Commission–a subsidiary of the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau.  He oversees the sports and competitions market for the state of Rhode Island.  John has over 28 years experience in the hospitality industry.

Stephanie attended Ohio University and attained her Bachelors Degree in Sport Management. While there, Stephanie  worked with the Ping Recreation Center to host a variety of different events, everything from 5ks to Super Bowl parties and family weekend activities. Following graduation, she worked for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Group Sales department organizing on court group activities in addition to coaching high school girls soccer.  Stephanie joined the Butler County Visitors Bureau (BCVB) in January 2008 and focuses on the sports and events market, bringing a variety of National Championships to the BC including USA Archery, USA Synchronized Swimming, USA Triathlon and world competitions in conjunction with the IWWF. New to the committee in 2012, Stephanie has been a member of NASC since 2008 and earned her CSEE Certification in 2011.


 
Terry Hasseltine, CSEE, Director, Maryland Office of Sports Marketing

Terry is currently the Executive Director of the Maryland Office of Sports and was appointed to this role in 2008 by Governor Martin O’Malley. Since his appointment, Hasseltine has been instrumental in spearheading various bid-development and event-support opportunities for the state related to these events and more: 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships – Deep Creek 2014;
2018/2022 FIFA World Cup ™ Bid; 2010, 2011 and 2014 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse National Championships; World Football Challenge and other International Soccer Friendlies; 2011- present Dew Tour; 2014-16 CAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2011, Grand Prix of Baltimore; Neutral Site Collegiate Football Games; 2014 and 2016 Army-Navy Games.  

In his tenure in Maryland, he has been named to the 2011 BBJ Power 20: The Next Generation and 2010 The Maryland Daily record Most Influential lists. He launched the TEAM Maryland initiative, too.

Hasseltine has served the NASC in several capacities: first ever NGB/Rights Holder to serve on the NASC Board of Directors (2003-04); currently, elected to the NASC Board of Directors in 2007 in the active member category and holds the Chairman position on the NASC Executive Committee.

Rick Hatcher is currently the Business Development Director of PSA Events Partners in Colorado Springs, CO. He has over twenty years of experience in the Sports Travel  & Event Management Industry. PSA works with several National Governing Bodies within the Olympic movement as well as various cities around the country hosting events.  Prior to joining PSA Events Partners, Rick was President and CEO of the Lexington Area Sports Authority in Lexington, KY, Executive Director of the Bluegrass State Games and Executive Director of the Tallahassee Sports Council in Tallahassee, FL.

Rick has served on the NASC Board of Directors and as the Chairman for one year.  Rick also served on numerous committees for the NASC and is a standing member of the NASC Leadership Council and a graduate of the Certified Sports Events Executive (CSEE) program.  Rick has also served on the Board of Directors for National Congress of State Games.

Mary Lee joined the Cedar Rapids Area Convention & Visitors Bureau in 1989. The bureau's Sports Tourism Department was established in 2000 and Mary Lee has served as the Director of Sports Tourism since that time. The Sports Tourism Department has helped bring a number of state, regional and national competitions to the Cedar Rapids area including the American Legion World Series and NCAA Division II and III National Wrestling Championships. Mary Lee has attended each NASC Sports Symposium since 1997 and has served on the Member Mentoring Committee since 2001. Mary Lee received her Certified Sports Event Executive certification in April 2006. She served on NASC’s Board of Directors from 2008-2013.

Bob joined Destination Worcester in November 2007 to promote and sell the City of Worcester, Massachusetts as a destination for sports, events, trade shows and reunions. Bob has over 15 years of experience in the field including working for sports marketing agencies, the sports commission for Massachusetts and World Championship events. He has managed high-end corporate hospitality functions and events, not-for-profit foundations of professional athletes and served as the Executive Director for the 2006 Men’s World Curling Championship. He is a member of the National Association of Sports Commissions and the International Association of Exhibitions and Events.

Hank has over 20 years of sales experience with Hilton Worldwide and strives to make Hilton Worldwide the first choice among professional, collegiate, and amateur sports entities. He educates Hilton Worldwide hotels on delivering successful hotel experiences in the professional, collegiate and amateur sports markets. Hank is a graduate of Niagara University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Travel and Tourism. Hank is currently enrolled in the CSEE program.

Mike is the Executive Director of the Greater Lansing Sports Authority (GLSA) and was integral in its creation. The GLSA is dedicated to raising the bar for superior sports development and marketing in the Lansing region and has been recognized by peers for their efforts; recipients of NASC Awards in Outstanding Web Presence, Outstanding Communication/ Advertising and in 2011 as Member of the Year. As one of the founding DMO’s for Pure Michigan Sports, Mike was instrumental in the creation of the initiative and currently has the pleasure of serving as the groups coordinator. Mike is a Certified Sports Event Executive (CSEE) and is currently a member of the Member Mentoring Committee.   

  Glen Schorr, Executive Director, Orienteering USA

Glen has been the Executive Director of Orienteering USA since 2009 and is responsible for the strategic direction and growth of the organization and the sport.  Today Orienteering USA represents over 60 clubs and 60,000 orienteers across the country and is growing against all key measures. 

Prior to joining Orienteering USA, Glen was Managing Director/ Marketing & Branding at US Lacrosse. As a member of the executive team, he managed all or in-part the: chapter relations, communications, financial development, marketing, membership and sponsorship departments. In his time there, he helped lacrosse become the fastest growing sport in America. 

Before he joined US Lacrosse, Glen spent 20 years in marketing and marketing communications industry. He is in-part responsible for putting Black & Decker power tools in your garage, Klondike ice cream bars in your freezer and Busch beer in your refrigerator.

Glen is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He, his wife Isabelle and his three sons live outside of Baltimore, MD.
